that potential decision is at least 5 years away, and by then i would suspect that cap will be high enough to support them. it can already support 2 top dman as it is right now. - sens rock
Ottawa currently has over $12 Million in Cap space, so as the team develops going forward I suspect this will be in the mind of the GM.
When Gonchar is no longer a Senator, more space opens in the payroll, so don't worry when players develop, and the team see them in their future plans, room will be there.

Im not too worried. 2 of the 3 haven't even made an impact in the nhl yet so who knows what their contract will be at the end of their ELC. It could be a Myers one, or a Bogosian one.

It's the same thing every year. These game mean SFA, coaches are trying out new systems or match ups, GMs are taking a look at prospects..........running smack over a pre-season win is just ridiculous, and I try a pay no attention to it.
When I watch tonight's game I'll be looking at the prospects, and see if what I've been hearing in the media is accurate or simply cheer-leading. |

TBH, it had most of your best players. Pretty embarrassing. - gretzky
Grabo, Kulemin, Armstrong, Phaneuf, Aulie, Liles (3 of our top 4 D)
We had our newest formed 1st line, and our 4th line out there on forward.. Far from most of our top players. |

Like I said, MOST of your top forwards were playing.
When did D come into this? I am not saying it's bad that you guys lost it's only preseason I am saying you should have scored at least 1 goal with that forward lineup though. |

teams get shutout multiple times in the regular season with their entire lineup in place....
your reasoning is comical. Lions went undefeated in preseason, just to have the perfect season 0-16. Preseason means jack squat |

Toronto probably had an even worse roster tonight than they had last night and Philly probably had a better roster on the ice tonight than they had last night. This is why you don't pay much attention to what happens in the preseason. |

I think guys make too much about the roster mix. Some of the veterans just coast through these games trying to get their fitness and timing in place. On the other hand, the rookies and prospects put every ounce of energy into pushing for a job. Not sure that in the first half of the exhibition schedule that the young guys probably do more for you than the vets.

Pretty much. They're really only good for seeing how far along a prospect is or how much a young player has improved and even then they are still just exhibition games lol. Even the last couple exhibition games of the year when teams have full rosters don't mean much. Toronto has looked good in those late games the last couple years and still been pooped on during the regular season. |

Luke Schenn last night looked worse than Brett Lebda. That won't happen during the regular season.
I heard people complained Connolly was "Coasting" last night-Of course he was. |

The pressure is on Burke, he has talked up his prospects in an effort to coverup the disasterous Kessel trade that has set back the Leaf rebuild. If the Leafs don't make the playoffs, then he should be fired.
He has talked big, but has failed to land a legit no.1 center in his time as GM, he has failed to find a legit no.1 Dman(Phanuef is not one ATM), It is quite odd how soft down the middle, a Burke team is.
Connolly-Grabovksi-Lombardi-Bozak
Soft soft soft. that will likely not get it done |

Wilson will be fired if they miss the playoffs or just not re-signed and let go. Burke is going nowhere.
And there's nothing wrong at all with the defense he built. The Phaneuf and Aulie trade was a steal and so was getting Franson. And Phaneuf looked great in the second half of last season. |

Go grab your AHL defence, put them in play, and tell me how many goals your offense scores. There is more to a TEAM than one player. It is called a TEAM for a reason. If the Defence fail to make solid passes out of your own zone, your forwards will have to do it themselves.
I am sure you have played howckey and know this. I am also sure you realize that your point is rather narrow sighted. Grabo/Kulemin was basically our first line last year. No doubt that Connolly/Kessel/Lupul will be designated our first line, however go throw Toews, Hall, and Perry on a line together, and even though you will probably get some point production, I doubt the first time they play together they will play anything like they will eventually play like.
Stop being an instigator.. You may be the reason they keep that rule in the game |

I think the Leafs have decided they want to make a serious run at being competitive, a playoff team right from the start. They do not want to risk a slow start like they had a couple of years ago. For that reason, they will get down to a workable number very quickly and they will play their top players to get them ready. Given the results of the last six years this makes a lot of sense and the right way to go. Nobody should make any apologies for it, there is at most only one or two roster spots that could be in doubt.

I think there is technically only one the way I see it. We will run with 7 defence:
Phaneuf, Aulie, Schenn, Liles, Franson, Gunnarson, Komisarek
Our goalies are set:
Reimer, Gustavsson
Our first 2 lines are set:
Kessel-Conolly-Lupul
Mac-Grabo-Kuli
And our third line can could be a mix of 4 players (4th is lombardi), but to start it is:
Kadri-Bozak-Armstrong
Our 4th line they say has the center position up for grabs, but Boyce is going to get it, 99%
Brown-Boyce-Orr
The roster is basically set like this, but once Lombardi comes back things will get messed up. Not sure what you do then.

he's better off in the ahl playing alot than backing up reimer (or gustavsson). He's never played more than 36 games at any meaningful level so him getting a couple of 50-60 game seasons in will help his development alot. |
