hey is anyone seent American Gods?

I read up on the concept a bit and it sounds super rad

myonly quibbly dibbly is I haven't read the books and I'm wondering if I should go books first or not.

Don't read the book if you want to watch the show.

It ruins a lot because the tone is totally different.

Like, the book is all about "Check out how (frank)ing weird this all is" whereas the show is more "GODS ARE REAL EVERYONE'S COOL WITH IT LET'S DO COCAINE"

That's how far I got, but I'd probably have enjoyed it a lot more if I hadn't read the book.

i think i read they are going with 100% practical effects so at minimum it'll look fantastic

Kong: Skull Island

was okay. not monster movie enough for me. pretty much just an action movie. neat cinematography but some serious dumb poop. felt a little disjointed as well between trying to make it "real" and "gritty" and also managing the spectacle of it all. John C Reilly fighting pterodactyls with a samurai sword is pretty (frank)ing rad. Brie Larson was actually pretty good and her mammo-whabbos looked great. Few good lols and subversions. Perfectly good and fine movie.

Thumbs up. Netflix worthy.

Mission Impossible: Fallout

real good but I don't think it was better than the previous one. tom cruise tom cruise'd as much as tom cruise could tom cruise. i like Henry Cavill. There's a point where all the "i double crossed you who double crossed while i was double crossing also a double cross twice" gets a little eye-rolling. Somehow this move got both dumber than I thought it would but also didn't get as dumb as I was expecting. Dumbest dumb was the climax which is fitting and that was really dumb, but also like there was a surprising lack of dumb before.

Thumbs up. Netflix worthy.
