They say its a small town, but it has two enormous high schools, loads of out in the open gang activity, a world class hotel, multiple rich families, a mayor that needs so much campaign funding that she's sewering public citizens and services for a private land deal that is apparently so lucrative you've basically got Lex Luthor pulling strings

So like... New Pacific Rim looks more like Power Rangers than Pacific Rim and that is really disappointing to me.

I liked the first one because the Jaegers were presented far more militaristic. There was a dirt and grit and grime on the world, it built a universe that felt real with the politics and media. The Jaegers were big slow moving chunks of metal that felt like a more natural evolution of tank. There was a weight to the presentation, like when a wrecking ball or piece of construction equipment moves. And a care in the fight to preserve their cities. Like where the Jaeger walked through Hong Kong and made sure to not step on the civilian bridges or kept the fight in the harbour as much as it could.

In this one, they're straight (frank)ing up office towers for cool points stopping. They're doing flips. The new pilots are kids. Some how Tech Girl hid a jaeger in her (frank)ing garage. It looks like Transformers.

Its like Gundam or some poop. Like its so Asian and clean looking with all the day time bright contrast shots.

This makes me really sad and wish you Richards weren't too busy living life to chat with me over this.

Like this one doesn't have that Guellermo style to it. There isn't that sense of grandeur and weight in the way things are shot.

This is like a bunch of Hollywood Rapists Execs, who I imagine sound like Richard Nixon and say "harumph!" a lot, were like "we gotta fit that Maze Runner into it! Yeah and Twilight! And Transformers, that fifth one was great!"

the stakes seem too low

there are too many jaeger robot dudes and the brighter setting isn't as cool

i'll still watch (in 3D!) it but it's looking like it's lost some of what was fun about the first one
