Zellers is kinda like our version of Kmart so it was a lot of everything.

if you were lucky you filled a truck with boxes of chips. they were big, took up a lot of room, stacked well and weighed nothing


if you were cursed you'd get boxes of shampoo and stuff like that. they were small and heavy and you had to be careful becasue if improperly stacked they'd collapse

we have had similar experiences as i grew up working for supermarkets. cases of chips were indeed a godsend (although crims can attest to my current hatred for chips, but they certainly were light). cases of like apple juice were a female dog. especially cause the bottles were glass back then, so it added weight and if a case went down it was clean up on aisle wherever the (frank) i am.

the place's one redeeming point was Lightbuster.

the way it worked, each guy had his truck and you'd pull in your conveyor belt and the boxes would start coming. if a truck got backed up, a yellow light on the conveyor would light up and this dude would come and give you a hand.

the dude was semi-retarded and he insisted on being called Lightbuster becasue he would bust the yellow lights.

he would spend lunchtime telling us about his beautiful girlfriend and the trips they would take on her yacht to exotic places.

his lunch every single day consisted of this: a 2 litre bottle of 7up which he would down almost in a single long gulp. It was magical.


I miss you Lightbuster wherever you are.

my god it's eerie how similar these places are. we had a cart guy with a bit of a disability. tom fizzer. the fizz. somehow he rode a moped to work even though he wasn't allowed to drive a car due to his disability.

every friday fizz asked if you were watching football this weekend and said "i hear there's a lot of games this week". even in the middle of summer.
