hey thanks. if you don't mind we can discuss computer options here because desi is quite knowledgeable as well and marty too. since you said you don't really have a specific room or spot to put the desktop, this leads me to think you would be better off with a laptop.

gaming laptops cost more. you're looking at $1500-$2000 just for portability.
you can get an equivalent desktop PC for $500-$800 ish depending on if you buy your parts when they are on sale and build the computer yourself.

though if possible, i would avoid buying HP, Dell, Acer, etc. buy a no name computer with name parts. desi and i can help you find something good.

that said though, most pre-built computers are best buy, futureshop, etc will be good enough for what you said you want to do. but you pay more for something pre-built and pre-loaded with bloatware.

I did check some out on the big chain stores and they start at about a grand as you mentioned. marty is super gay however. If I can stretch the laptop out for another year I should be ok with a desktop becasue by then natasho may move into bunk beds with dt jr and I can reclaim that spare bedroom and turn it back into an office.

I just need to regularly back up beacsue I'm getting blue screens lately and I have all my photos on the laptop.

another more advanced idea would be to also price laptop upgrade components. you already have the case and screen and would just need to replace the mobo, cpu, memory, and gpu.

but, i would recommend a desktop. once the initial price shock is forgotten, you can keep a desktop running forever with minor parts upgrades every few years at minimal cost.

and, i want you to know that you might be seeing your first taste of alien combat.
