your monitor will still have to connected. no such thing as a wireless monitor, yet.

wireless mouse and keyboard will work, but they have limited range. might not work more than 30 feet away from the pc.

speakers will need to be plugged in as well.

to be honest dan it seems what you really want is a laptop.

the back wall of where my TV is located has the storage room on the other side. I could put the machine in there and then run a cable since all my wiring goes through that room anyway and then use wireless keyboard/mouse.

computers now are good enough now that you won't need to upgrade for several years. 5 years ago it was the opposite.

perhaps look into getting a macbook. steam is out for mac and they have tons of games (not all, many big ones missing still) but i can guarantee you'll love it. very practical and good battery life. it does cost more than most laptops though.

otherwise just get a desktop and be prepared to clear out some space for it.

you can use DVI or VGA

but you won't get sound out of that so you'll need to hookup your pc to the soundsystem/tv.

you could also get a small tv. 27" or 32" or whatever you like. put it where junior and natasho don't have access and use that. though at that point it would make sense to upgrade the tv in the living room.

I would like to have a desktop however I have no room for it and no desire to move stuff around in order to create it.

Is there a way by which I could keep the computer itself in a remote area (such as my storage room, garage, peehole, etc) and via means of wireless technology have the control units such as the mouse/keyboard and display units (such as monitor or peehole) in another location?

get something with 8GB of ram and you won't need to upgrade until you buy a new computer 5 years from now. promise you that. same with videocard. these things don't improve as drastically as they used to. you'll be fine for a few years.

as for hard drive upgrade, you should be more than fine with 500GB. then just get cloud storage or an external drive.

I still have my old desktop in the storage. don't remember what the specs are since I unhooked it about 3 years ago when I got the laptop. I'm hoping it's salvageable.
