John Jaeckel: The Games You Should Win

Yes, thought Wingels looked especially good last night, and he will bang some bodies (I guess it was interference maybe possibly when 2 guys went to the box at the same time in 1st period).

Toews has also looked better to me the last few games.

Poor AA, game just looks too fast for him right now.

I saw the same. Have to add Saad continued to be a disruptor during PK for the other team, cannot believe CBJ traded him for regular season sharpshooter.

Kane and Hartman do not seem to jell together and third line can use some boost (Vinnie?).

So all in all, it was a good night for Chicago, as they struggle to forge a consistent identity for a team full of new faces.

Exactly what I was thinking last night as I drifted off to sleep during Boden’s interview with Wingels. This Blackhawks team is still figuring out who/what it is and coming together. That’s why I’m not as worried about some of the issues we’re seeing. Yet.

The 1st Hawk tally is currently listed as a goal for Panik, but according to my eye (after watching several replays), he never touched the puck. That should be Toews' goal.

Hope Tanner doesn't read this.

Nice win.

This may not be the best group of D-men the Hawks have had in the last 8 seasons, but it might be the deepest.

Oesterle looked pretty good again. Forsling and Murphy both seem to be getting more comfortable. They each have some unrealized upside and could/should continue to improve. Ruuta has been more than solid. Kempny has been solid. Seabrook is Seabrook, and Franson is fine as an 8th defenseman. I can't remember a deeper group recently.

The only elite defender among that group is Keith, so they don't compare well to the D-lines of 2010 and 2013, but if Forsling, Murphy and Kempny improve over the course of the season, who knows...?

Columbus didn't trade Saad for a regular season sharp shooter- but more of an assist machine, which includes assists gifted by overly friendly scorers ... not today's but the game before the puck sorta landed amongst Panarin on breakout, and I am not even sure that he actually did anything with it --Columbus scores ... still an assist. I think Panarin has like one goal for the season.

I mean -well, ok in that sense it is still who cares, he's on another team, but since it came up.

I do want to say though - that I was watching the first period and ... ok Seabrook... I think I understand now (this was on the PK) .... yeh let's forego an easy clear down the ice for something far stupider, like backmanning it behind our net -- but well, maybe not a backpass - but more like a wake up call for Crawford ... seriously, that was a really dumb play -as in, it actually takes effort to do something that stupid.

Shaking my head...

Watching AA last night i thought he did a decent job, i think what bothers me about him is he's so stiff out there

Its funny this new face off rule may help since he so slow to react to the puck drop

What is the over/under on ADB triggering his first year on his ELC on Tuesday?

Problem with Hartman to me is his inability to hold on to the puck/ make a good pass, half the time he kills possession.

On the overturned goal...If the goalie touches the the player's stick on a penalty shot, is the play dead? If not, I don't know how they overturn the call on the ice. Wingel's stick was in between Domingue's and the puck. The goalie stick may have brushed the puck on the follow through, but was it conclusive enough to overturn the call on the ice?

Hartman looks like he is turning into a bigger version of TT. He deferred a number of times when he had a decent look to shoot the puck. Hopefully that hit late in the game didn't hurt him much and he can get back to playing more aggressive.

I think he's more worried about pissing off Q than opposing players clobbering him. Generally seems up to the task and he can take a hit

I think Debrincat is here to stay, he’s been good and improving with each game. By no means is Debrincat’s game perfect nor is he Kane 2.0, but he’s showing some progression in his game and he’s part of a decent line with Sharp and Anisimov.

Another couple of “rookies”that have stepped up nicely are Rutta and Forsling, I think they’ve solidified themselves as the second D unit for now. I would have Murphy as the #5 then rotate the other 3.

As far as De goes, i like his game he's just got to get better at recognizing when he doesn't have a play and throwing the puck behind the net, like most rookies who have skill have to learn

Also, how to get to - and maintain position in - a good shooting spot for him - also - how to better avoid hard hits.

He seems to be a Kane-like - altho certainly not Kane-good - in being able to both make plays and snipe - once he learns the NHL game.

Just a curiousity, but let me know if the officiating against the Knights seems a bit off. I am trying to see if it is purely a biased view I have or if there is something to it.

AA and DeBrincat might not be such a good match. Both of those guys play well enough with Sharp, but AA and ADB haven't figured it out yet. They need to.

Saw the first period only. Wondered if the league is still freezing the pucks and that he hocks might should practice with tennis balls. Also, too, did the fourth line have mucho ice time? Q knows hockey.
