Can’t believe we got groaty. Terrible name. Wonder what we gave up |
|

Apparently his camp was demanding a team with an nhl spot for him which caused other trades to fall apart. Next to sid?
This sounds like the behaviour of someone named rutger mcgroaty |

By my math, salary has to be leaving. Rakell, Eller, or Acari? |

He’s not on an elc l. He refused to sign in winnipeg
Edit - he is also committed to playing in Michigan this year.
Double edit. Trade is for yager |

No idea what the return is, but I love it. The exact kind of player we should be using draft capital for. Lets say its NSH's 2nd round pick. That pick probably has a less than 15% chance of making it to the NHL full time. Based on Jfresh's analytics, this kid has a 80% of being a regular in the NHL.
Dubas playing the odds. I bet FSG loves that. |

Oh sh!t. I dont love it as much now. Yager and McGroarty would've been a great group to build around.
Now Im not so sure what Dubas sees here. Maybe he wants the player who is ready now? Yager is the guy who Dubas refused to trade the pick because he really wanted him. |

Groaty is committed to going back to college this year, but can still sign his elc with us.
“Playmlaing wing prospect with a touch of physicality. Needs to work on foot speed”
If they are close to equal I think I’d rather the sniper centre who can skate well. |

Im looking at Jfresh and he has a higher % of becoming a star NHLer and a regular NHLer than Yager. If it's 1 for 1, Dubas might just be playing the analytics and taking the lower risk bet. I doubted Yager was going to be ready for this season anyway.
And this is a lack of knowledge on my part - but is a guy really "committed" to going back to school? If he's ready now, why would he wait another year? |

Neither is groaty but maybe he’s closer 🤷🏻♂️. Seems like a lot for someone refusing to sign with their team anyways. But quickly reading up on him he seems like a typical Winnipeg type of player. Interesting though. |

I like this move on its merits, but I love this move on the idea of yinzers saying "Rutger McGroarty" when calling into sports talk radio shows in Pittsburgh for hopefully the next 15 years. |

My only thought is he is maybe 1-2 years ahead of yager to have an impact in the nhl. I don’t like giving up a potential scoring centre for potential play making winger but I like that groaty has size and physicality.
Also curious about his demands. Says a bit about his character. Read somewhere he is close friends with gauthier or same agent or something like that. Hope he doesn’t turn out to be a problem. |

McGroaty is the better prospect with the higher pedigree and is closer to the NHL. Obviously you do this trade. It just makes it a bit less good on the aggregate that we had to give up our best prospect instead of being able to stockpile. |

Yup the two of them could have been lethal. Will have to watch both their careers now. |
