I see a team that for the most part performs as expected and luck could be a playoff team, but not really good enough to make any noise. Add a young franchise center and a move or two to strengthen up defense and/or goaltending and the team could fight for the division...
The Pickle: I don't think they are going to be that bad to have a chance to get that center or make the smart moves.

We'll see how it shakes out but I think they want to have Seeler and Drysdale as a pairing with York and Sanheim together.

I can see that as well, I can also see York-Drysdale too. I think pairings will be swapped around again throughout the year.
I just have a hard time seeing Seeler taking up top 4 minutes. I love his no quit, but I think he's a great bottom pair. Now Risto...I want to see him bounce back for selfish reasons...he would be great trade bait and able to get a young guy more shots.

Interesting comments from both Frost and Torts about what Frost needs to do this year. Torts said Frost has improved but now its all about being consistently assertive, no more up and down games, needs to be a steady climb up. And Frost talked about needing to shoot more, especially if he continues to play with Michkov who is a play maker, winning more puck battles (he put on more muscle this summer) and just being consistent. One additional thing Torts stated that caught my attention, with Frost the improvement needs to be on the ice, not with his mouth.
Looks to fun season already. |

Risto starting the season with Zamula, they looked great together yesterday. Right now I think the only spot up for grabs on defense, barring injury, is the 7th defenseman. |

How did Michkov look with a more NHL rostered group - ClaudeFather
From what I saw he held his own, made a nice back check in the o-zone that lead to a Frost goal. I think Michkov is going to have a year similar to Foerster's year last year, may not score early in the season but will do a lot of the little things that will keep him in the lineup. He certainly didn't look out of place. |

Brink with the Deslauriers group is no surprise. I expect him to not be in the starting lineup opening night.
Michkov’s best friend will be on the ice. |

"That's the biggest thing with Frosty and I, the up and down we go with is being consistent," Tortorella said Friday. "Important guy, up the middle, a position that we're still trying to find our way with. He makes plays, he has gone through it, has slowly gotten better. I think it's a really big year for him, I really do. I think he has improved, which is really good. But I want to see him in more of a consistent, take charge type of guy. Not with his mouth; with his play."
That's been obvious to anyone honest about what they see when they watch him. And Frost knows this as well,
"I feel stronger," he said Friday. "I think that's definitely one area I can improve on is some of those 1-on-1 puck battles. I'm never going to be a super physical guy out there, but I think if I can win some more 1-on-1 battles and then get the puck to my teammates after that, I think that will help me a lot.
"I'd like to get to a point where I can be relied upon late in the game from a defensive standpoint. I think in the past, that kind of hasn't been there, so that's something I'd like to work on and hopefully get to that point."

I’m not as optimistic as JD but I am on that island that believes Risto is better than this board gives credit. I don’t think he’s always hurt and I don’t think he’s useless defensively. No question he’s prone to mistakes but Tony DeAngelo was waaaaaaaaaay worse defensively. Tony DeAngelo made Risto look like Adam Foote. |

Just listen how Torts talked about Risto yesterday, it just shows how little so many on this board know about hockey. |

The 7th isn't up for grabs. Ristolainen should be the 7th defenseman.

I like Risto but you keep saying he’s our best defenseman like a maniac. He isn’t. I think it’s fair to say Risto has learned to adjust his game and I do like that he’s one of two defenders on this squad that has a physical element and I may even believe he deserves a look on the power play if Drysdale doesn’t improve but Risto does have flaws. He’s not this perfect defenseman that you’re making him out to be. The mistakes he does make can be ugly. |

What your post here shows is how little you know about hockey and how little you know about Tortorella. Look back at pre season comments Tortorella has made about Angelo and Hayes in the past.

Who is the top 6? Risto is a solid bottom pair player. To say otherwise is just showing hatred toward the player. |
