Best game I've seen from Husso in 2 years I'd guess. He was dialed in tonight like a brick wall. Stood on his head the whole game. He definitely stole this game. Good to see Danielson and Nygard playing really well. Gotta get these prospects developed and into the lineup. Biggest concern is still our overall team defense (or lack of) this season.

Always good to watch Pittsburgh lose! They completely dominated the game but Husso stood on his head and defied them to score!
Nice to Ammo score that beautiful goal! He has been handling the puck well only to be unable to finish, good to see him get it together! Danny Boy slipped the puck under Jarry's pad. With only 19 shots to face, that put Jarry under .900 S% while Husso had .977 S%!!!!!!!!!!!

We really need a RD to step up. I thought Tuomisto looked OK so far this preseason. Very small sample, tho.

I’m not doing much today since we have 3 games in a row coming up. A quick thought. It doesn’t seem like any of the rookies are going to “break through” in camp, but Watson is somewhat intriguing. Would require waivers. He and Motte can both clear the crease but who do you send packing if Austin looks like a good fit?

Was a beauty. MBN got the intercept at Detroit’s Blue line and sent to Danielson. Twitter clip is embedded in article. Fun goal

I was impressed with Watson. I like his size, willingness to block shots, and be a tough guy to play against. I would like to see him on the team.

Let’s the kids dominate in GR and force our hand.

I thought Husso played well, but it is one game.

I’m with you. Injuries will kick in. Get a really good top line in GR to start. Husso, same. Insane performance but need it in season. Hopefully he’s hungry and healthy

Wings are in tough until Yzerman gets deeper down the middle of the ice. Which is easier said than done, unless you either get lucky, or, you get a top three pick. Look at the past four cups they're won, Yzerman/Fedorov/Larionov for two of them, Yzerman/Fedorov/Larionov/Datsyuk for the third one and then Datsyuk/Zetterberg for the fourth one.

Keep cheering though!!!

You have nailed it. The drop off at center is embarrassing. Larkin works his tail off, but we need at least another “Larkin” level center. I know they’re hoping to develop but at some point you may have to cough up assets and get a center. I don’t know how it will pan out. Your head is in the exact right place. It’s at least more fun to watch at times, but the middle and blue line feel brutal.

I like Watson as well... he adds the sandpaper and some toughness to any team. As long as he's not a defensive liablility he's a good fit for Detroit. Just not sure who's spot he's going to take as they have a logjam of players right now. Probably Fischer is the most expendable... but he's already signed for this season.

I don’t think JT Compher gets the credit he should. If he centers Tarasenko and Kane this year, I think you’re going to see an awesome line

MAYBE ALL THE INCENTIVE HUSSO NEEDS IS TO BE IN A CONTRACT YEAR
He had his best year in St. Louis in the last year of his previous contract!

Compher has a very good 2 way game, and it may be a big bump to play with those two. But I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think another top 6 center is needed. Compher and Copp were really good on the PK together at times last year. But the blue line may be an even bigger issue. I want the best for these guys, I love the hometown team. Hoping they find some way to do something with the D group.

Insane how many times that works out. Contract year, career stats. Well, Lyon needs one too so let them duke it out! The team benefits. I wish I could go watch MSU and see Augustine play. Really enjoyed the bits I got to see. Confident kid (my brother would kill me, U of M grad).

Just a quick thank you to everyone who has chimed in. I realized the other day I just passed 1,200 entries. Without you all I don’t get to do this. Thank you, everyone. And someone please put Gergeswillems on a milk carton. Miss that dude

Wings do need a good offensive center but they at least have some prospects that are close.

Look at that defense, to me that is the major problem with this team right now. You have Seider who is a top pair guy no doubt. Edvinsson we don't know what he is at this point. Might be top 4 with top pair potential but he needs to prove it first. Maatta is ok but can he handle top 4 minutes for a full season against other teams top players. Chiarot could be good if he played a stay at home role but he won't do that and he keeps trying to play goalie instead of doing his job in the defensive zone. Gus looks like a crappier version of Ghost so far. Petry has no business in the top 4. He could be ok on the bottom pair with limited minutes. Holl just doesn't do anything well. Johansson so far in pre-season hasn't impressed me. He looks weak on his skates. I wouldn't risk waiving him at this point though.

Wings don't really have any good prospects on defense knocking on the door at this point either. ASP looks like the best bet but he hasn't even come over yet so he's likely 2 years away imo. Wings need at least 1 top 4 defenseman, possibly 2 to push players down into the depth spots they should be in. Fix that and then goalies start looking better along with it.

Would also love for Fester to dump that stupid collapsing defensive system in their own zone. This continues to cost them goals against, them getting stuck in their own zone for way too long and affects the offense and breakouts because too many time pucks are just flipped out of the zone to the opponents or the puck iced. Go man to man with high pressure or at least play the wingers higher up closer to the opposing defensemen so they can put faster pressure on them when they have the puck and not have all day to make plays or shoot with your own players screening your goalies because they all collapse down low in front of your net.
