Leafs can punt this down the road if Hakanpaa and Dewar hit LTIR and if Patches and Lorentz sign for a combined 1.58M. They'd just need to waive Rifai and Myers.
They can tag bonuses on to Patches' deal if needed.
Wildcard might be that Berube likes what he saw out of Myers or Rifai. If so then I assume they'll be shopping Lilly hard.

Myers was surprisingly decent in the preseason at playing a very simple game.

I didn't watch much but that's what I had read ..and the fact that he got the spot replacing McCabe last night makes me believe it's either him or Lilly for spot #7. Probably boils down to whether they can get any value for Lilly at this point.

Myers or Lilly
Hakanpaa LTIR
Rifai next man up
Also, did Patches really earn a spot? For me if he's not in your top6 I'm not sure he's worth keeping. Lots of bottom six wingers available.
Lorentz, Dewar, Reaves for that Kampf checking line.
McMann, Robertson, Jarnkrok for the Holmberg 3/4th line.

At times I thought Pacioretty looked a step or two behind the play and in the last game he seemed to be forcing it too much - almost like he knows he's on the bubble. That said he did have 5 points in 3 games, and 4 of them were at even strength. I think if you translate some of those plays to regular season, he still ends up with 3pts in 3 games, so it wasn't a dreadful showing - but his first game was probably more impressive than his last one.
He comes with the "intangibles" of veteran leadership - so the Leafs will need to decide if he's worth losing a Holmberg or Jarnkrok for. I sort of always saw him more of a fit for a 3rd line which should have some ability to score and some defensive awareness. He did have decent chemistry with Tavares, though.
Because I don't know about the status of Hakanpaa and Dewar, I'm assuming that they are both starting on LTIR while they recover/get into game shape. So on the D-side I think Timmins really failed to impress - but I also thought that Liljegren impressed even less. Berube has also been openly critical of Liljegren.
Interesting, I saw higher numbers coming from talking heads. Why did it turn into such a sideshow if it’s what he was “always pegged at?” - DrunkenCanuck
Rumour was that they offered him ~ 6.5M and didn't move all summer. Takes a while (and often a deadline) for gaps to close.
Not sure it was really a sideshow other than Neely's stupid press conference. Otherwise, lots of guys/teams negotiate up to a deadline.

I'm not sure much turns on a lot of the cuts/decisions. They know that a 3C and probably another 4/5 Dman are the upgrades they need before the playoffs begin. That stuff won't be available until the deadline so just need to manage the assets they have until then.

I never thought I would say this, but Myers might be a better fit than Lilly, especially with the caphit.
I like Patches, but I think he's still a risk. Slow and fragile. Still has heart and a nose for the net, but the idea of giving him serious icetime in the top-six is worrisome, especially over the long grind of the regular season. Bottom six and special teams yes, top-six.... not so much.

He did nothing in the Preseason to earn a contract on the PTO but we will sign him anyway. While I am not a Robertson guy, Robertson has earned the icetime(at least for now) that they well not have to split between the 2 of them.

Seconded.
But, I don't think anyone is scared of them any longer. They are top heavy and their most elite player is held together with plates and pins. - GalacticStone
Could they not have finally have a hold out or a bad deal? Just once?

Higher numbers from who?
What sideshow? Only neely went off once
