-'Pretty good possibility' they go 11-7 again.(which i dont totally hate tbh, if they use Miller over Smith for a majority of 5v5 with Luke again like last game. Limit Smith's 5v5 ice time while having him essentially as a "PK specialist")

Well theres the differnce between having a reliable goalie and not. Shesterkin was able to lock it in and shut us down when it matter most, and Vanecek folded. His rebound control and lateral movement continue to be awful, was his biggest issue last season as well.

The team deserved better tonight, they played more than well enough to win. To atleast get a point at a minimum.

Agreed. Unfortunately its pretty hard to acquire a significant goaltending piece mid-season, so i dont really see it happening. Fitz blew his shot in the offseason, when everybody knew goaltending needed to be addressed. I guess we just gotta hope they can find a way to get back to last years performance and give us average goaltending.

Leaky defense isnt much of an issue, considering it happens to every team in the league. How many grade-A chances did we have in the 3rd to extend the lead to 4-2? Atleast 3, including 2 breakaways. One goalie did his job and shut it down when it mattered, while the other folded. Thats all there is to it. As a team, we've given up the 3rd LEAST amount of scoring chances in the league. The defense is fine. The issue is when we do have breakdowns, we get scored on way more than pretty much any other team in the league. If we didnt have arguably THE worst goaltending in the league, we'd be right where we're expected to be(injuries excluded). Its literally 'just the goalie', again, just like 2021.

Biggest concern is Vanecek's side to side movement. My son plays goal and he questioned the goals he let in (yeah we questioned shesty's too but 16 days off will make anyone rusty).

100%, his lateral movement and rebound control is atrocious. He had the same struggles last season too.
