Bill Meltzer: Quick Hits: Briere, Media Day, Camp Schedule - bmeltzer
Bill morning, few questions.
- Do you think Attard will be claimed on waivers? Do the Flyers think he will be claimed?
- Does Zamula being MM shadow come into play with their roster decision on him? Do you see him being moved before the season?
- Do you see any top 9 forward being moved before the season?
- Does Abols have any realistic shot to win a spot?
- Your on death row what you having as your last meal?

So Kolosov comes over and plays in the AHL until an injury or someone gets the flu. Maybe that takes until Nov. Maybe. Then he has a chance to prove himself. That was not good enough for him..? Who guarantees a goalie position in the NHL? Especially to an unproven 22 year old. My guess is he is on the Phantoms by Halloween once reality sets in for this kid. Why did a KHL team not already sign him? |

1) I think Attard clears. Teams have their own numbers game. But there's always a chance he gets claimed as a big RHD with a heavy shot.
2) Before the season, no. In season, possibly (Farabee, for example).
3) I'm not holding my breath on Abols or Eklind.
4) My wife's hamburger soup, fresh baked garlic cheese bread , a big rib steak with a baked potato.

Kolosov has never said any of those things, nor his agent, nor has Briere stated that he said that. Briere has only implied that and as you see, people ran with it. If you have knowledge otherwise i'd love to see it. Let's hear it for DB working for a multinational media conglomerate, their spin becomes fact.
The KHL already went that route with Fedotov, signing him while under contract with the Flyers. I feel sometimes like fans have amnesia regarding Fed. The Flyers took it to the IIHF and the khl was sanctioned, fined, Fed is ineligible to play in international competitions for several years. I doubt they feel Kolo is worth going through that again.
https://thehockeynews.com...ed-over-ivan-fedotov-case
While Fed is older and more established let's also remember he's only here because he was guaranteed an NHL job and they quadrupled his pay plus, most likely, whatever the Flyers paid the KHL to terminate his contract.

Pardon my ignorance, what is hamburger soup? Is it like hamburger helper, but soup?
Also why do dishes use the word hamburger if it has no bun...just beef, right?

Any sense if RYJO will appeal or accept the termination? |

I have a feeling he’s going to play some games in the NHL this year…not on the Flyers though.

Not sure why people still ask that. His agent put out a release the day after the Flyers released him.
Ryan Johansen’s agent has released a statement on his behalf saying they will file a grievance following the Flyers terminating his contract
Now that doesn't mean they actually followed through with the appeal but what possible reason would he have to accept it? |

Why is Kolosov not here then? Does he no longer want to play hockey at any level? I gotta a spot on my mens league time if he is at all interested. |

that was the day after. It is now x amount of days later and things could have changed, no? That is possible right?
Could be several reasons one being the Flyers have presented him with actual proof.

I don't know what the implications are of filing a grievance...cost? Right now all I know is the time, the paperwork and maybe the information that comes out, but it seems like it would be done because "what do they have to lose"?
As much as the focus is on the Flyers terminating the contract to open cap space, Nashville gains that cap space as well I believe. There had to be contact between the two organizations over this at some point, right?
Maybe a trade happens between the two sometime in the future......
Edit:
I could see Nashville wanting another top 6 forward (Farabee) and I remember hearing friction with Fabbro.....could be an interesting swap. |

You asked why didn't the KHL sign Kolosov when Fedotov has been through that exact same situation with the KHL. Also, The reasons Fedotov came over to North America literally only months ago are the exact same reasons you are mocking Kolosov for "maybe" wanting.
I'm not sure it's possible to get a more relevant example to that question. As far as Kolosov, I'm not vilifying the kid until i hear something concrete.
Not saying the Fedotov package wouldn't work, I mean it worked to get Fed over, but if that's the case, Fed had leverage which Kolosov currently doesn't have. |

Chuck never learned the art, he naturally had nothing to say.

Your conspiracy theories about the Briere and the Flyers are getting old to be honest. Briere stated clearly yesterday that Kolosiv wanted a spot on the Flyers roster, otherwise he is not going to come. Why on Earth would Briere make such a statement unless he heard it directly from the Kolosov's camp. Why would Briere blatently lie about this? |

I might have preferred Chuck's lawyer-ese tbh... all of Danny's answers are either he's "excited" about xyz or more circle the wagons "culture" talk or he's deferring to Torts. |

"I have to treat it as if it’s in escrow. I have to act like it’s not there until the final decision is made,"
Preds aren't spending that money until the appeal period is over. Not sure why the Flyers would have to be in contact with them? There wasn't anything to discuss regarding RyJo's termination.
I will say the Flyers have done them several solids over the years, first with Ellis and now possibly with RyJo.

My guess is RYJO will wait until the last moment (he has 60 days from termination of the contract) before he files an appeal, to stick it to the Flyers as much as possible. I don't believe RYJO or any player would ever accept a termination in this day and age. |

No I don't think he lied about Quitter, in fact we still have not heard Quitter's side of the story which tells me Quitter has something to hide and thus just wants this to go away. Briere would not have said this at all if he had not heard from Kolosov's camp that he wants a gauranteed NHL roster spot, otherwise he wants to stay in the AHL. This is not speculation on Briere's part.

The first two minutes of Briere's presser was crystal clear to me. |
