Really liking what Edstrom is doing so far. And I think Othmann got better as the game went on. Dumb penalty on that forecheck, but he seemed to know it and got back to playing hard and smart. |

Edstrom has to be holding that last spot as of now. His to lose IMO.
Love Berard out there, gives 100% every shift.
Othmann needs to settle in. You can tell he cares a ton and trying to make his case, but getting in his own way a bit.
Hoping Drury gives Kakko 20 games to make his mark, and then make a decision. Both those young guys save money and probably not a huge step down. |

3rd pre season in a row panain hurt. Probably groin or hammy. Hopefully not long term. Looks like this is Lindgrens last year here. Always hurt.
On brooks article, really not liking pay Igor $12m at 30. Issue is I do not think they have a plan if they part ways with him to improve the team as a top 5v5 team. So I think they end up paying him. |

30 for a goalie is not the same for 30 as a forward or defenseman. You pay that man his money right the F now |

Im torn bc I can see both sides of it. If I trusted the team to build their roster the right way I would understand not paying him. But I do not

Would you rather give him $10M x 8 years with a full NMC or $12M x 8 with a NMC that becomes a 10/15 team NTC after 4 years? |

EASY but it aint happening
By almost any metric Igor is better than Hank was to this point in their respective careers. I think the sample size is large enough. He's been better in the playoffs than Hank too. And Hank is one of the greatest goalies of all time, so yea. Therefore, you do not worry about NMC |

I’m not sure if giving an 8 yr contract is the right thing to do. If we are giving that kind of money I would go 5. But that’s the opinion of 1 man. Plus not sure how this helps the salary cap situation with guys coming up for a new contract, laffy for one. |

That takes Igor to age 36, which is still an effective age for a goalie and hopefully comes with a championship or 3 along the way. Would not care about the latter years when signing him |

I agree so maybe I picked the wrong numbers. I guess would you rather spend a bit more AAV to have some flexibility later in the contract or give the full NMC to save a bit on AAV?
The team has clearly leaned on the latter recently but when it comes to goaltending I think I'd rather pay a bit more and have an out if needed |

I added more to my post up there. I just don't think there's really an "out" there the same way there would be with a forward/defenseman. Goalies don't usually get traded like that and there is 0 precedent for one making that much money. If it's a difference of $1.5-$2m for that NMC you pay him that much less and do no worry about it. I can't rationalize it |

You can use a compare player tool and see that roughly the same amount of games into Hank's career and most of Igor's numbers are better. Especially playoffs. Again, Hank is an all time great. |

It's difficult to compare the two. I never thought that Hank was clearly the #1 goalie in the league outside of MAYBE one or two seasons. Hank was so good because we could count on him being a top 3-5 goalie in the league for a dozen years. You just don't get that kind of consistency at the position.
Comparing Hank to Quick in their primes for example, I would always say that I'd take Quick's best game over Hank's best game, but I would take Hank for a season any day over Quick.
I think Igor is a little more of the Quick mold. His top end game is just outright unbeatable and when he plays his A game I think he is straight up the best player in the league. Igor definitely has more off nights than Hank had, and without a doubt has a much better team in front of him than Hank did.
We've been very lucky with goalies over the years but I don't think you can definitely say Igor > Hank at this point IMO |

One more note here on Igor vs Hank. And I agree, it's obviously too early to make a declaration. Scoring/GAA has gone up and save % has gone down since Hank's prime and Igor is still doing it mostly better than Hank. |

#NYR Artemi Panarin (lower body) is day to day.
Ryan Lindgren (upper body) is out at least a few weeks. |

#NYR injury updates: Lindgren will be out at least a few weeks. Panarin isn’t practicing today either but he’s considered day-to-day.
Lindgren injury must have occurred when he hit the ice
With Robertson not 100%, wonder if Mancini breaks camp with the team? |

Ok one last thing because i am so invested in the conversion for some reason. Above is Hank's Vezina season but if it were the same winning % over the entirety of his 752 regular season starts compared to Shesty's career so far over the same amount of games. Come onnnnnnnn |

The scoring has definitely gone up but I think the numbers show that.
Igor's Vezina season was no doubt special, with a .935 Save % and 2.07 GAA. Outside of that season, his Save % has been .932, .916, .916, .912 (average of 0.919). His GAA in those years was 2.52, 2.62, 2.48, 2.58 (average of 2.55)
Hank didn't have a season with a GAA of 2.48 or higher (Igor's 2nd best season thus far) until 2015-2016 when he was 33 in his 11th season. During those 11 seasons he had an average GAA of 2.27 and a save % of .912. If you remove Hank's Vezina season to make the comparison fair then his averages would have been 2.30 GAA and .910 save % in that time.
So Igor does have the slightly higher save % but Hank's GAA advantage is arguably better.
Keep in mind that during those early years Hank was playing 70+ games, Igor has never played over 58

We’ve been spoiled over the years. So let’s keep it up. Pay him the lowest amount possible for 8 years |

Edstrom and Rempe look to be a handful for any team to deal with. The nice thing about this team is that there is a ton of depth! |

Ok but in fairness like I said Hank's best quality was his consistency. His Vezina season wasn't that much better than his average season, which is why in his first 10 years he never finished lower than 6th in vezina voting.
Igor's Vezina season was an outlier thus far compared to his other seasons (which are also very good, just not the level his Vezina season was). Igor's Vezina seasons makes up 25% of his games played, so the numbers you posted are skewed.
All of this is to say I still love Igor and think he should be paid. I also think there is a decent chance he ends up as the better goalie and if he brings a cup, the stats won't matter at all. I just wouldn't put him above Hank yet |

I think the mere fact that we are arguing hall of fame numbers for consecutive Ranger's goalies is in of itself something to marvel at. Like Rick said, we have been spoiled to be able to do so.
Igor will get signed and then we can all Monday morning quarterback the contract details.
I will say the teams depth in the lower 6 and growth of the prospects is a credit to Drury's drafting. I think this positions the Rangers a bit better this season than last. The bottom 6 now has more size, grit and talent available. Like Drury or not, Rempe, Edstrom, Berard, Skykora, Othmann are all draft picks that are viable, either this or next year, for the bottom 6. |
