Forgive my pessimism, but is this really the best way for the Jays to spend a boatload of money?

From what I saw this year, they are a little further than "one guy away."

They gotta put butts in seats, at this rate the rebuild will continue for all eternity.

Anthony Stolarz will get the start for Toronto, and former Leaf David Rittich will get the start for Los Angeles. Another former Leaf, Joel Edmundson will not be in the lineup for the Kings, due to an impending birth.

I initially thought this was going to be a cake walk, but apparently Big Save Dave was 22-13-6 last year, with a 2.15 GAA and a .921 SV%.

Who knew?

Lily is too expensive to be a #7.

Something has to give.

Depth is nice and having a solid #7 and #8 (god forbid #9) who can step in is nice insurance to have. But I feel like you could get a solid #7 for a good bit less than Lily.

Lily doesn't have much trade value at the moment and I'm not sure if that improves anytime soon. Teams know the Leafs are in a cap crunch and are not going to do them any favours. If the Leafs really want to get rid of him they could waive him. I am sure there would be one team willing to take a chance on him even at 3 mil. (Dubas)

It is too bad a first rounder hasn't panned out. No team wants to give up on their own high draft picks, but the leafs are just better off giving him away for the extra cap space.

I still smell a decisive victory for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but yeah that wasn't on my bingo card.

Soto is only 26. So that increases his cost.
$600 and 10 years.....not sure its the best use of money. Could probably get Santander and pete alonso for 5 years at under $60m per combined.

No real trade value for lily right now and no rush to move him. Play him games and improve his value.

Agree here. No rush, but eventually it's a situation the team will want to address. Hopefully Lily makes the decision for them by playing his way back into the lineup and climbing up the depth chart to become a solid #5/6. He will come in handy if injuries start piling up.

I'm not ready to write the guy off and just waive him or give him away for peanuts. He's still young enough to improve if he works hard enough and regains the trust of the coach.

2 offensive bats compared to one. Also it would be less than 60m.

Heck sign bregman and santander or bregman and teoscar....dont care. Blowing it all in one fish (unless they are going to ohtani him) doesnt seem like a good idea as they need two quality bats and a whole new bullpen

Damn you Monkey. I got that song stuck in my head now. Actually met him and the drummer at a cafe in the Skydome in 1998. They seemed pretty cool.

So the Jays having not won a best of 7 since '93, is that the longest streak in pro sports at this point?
