Berube's time out last night and apparently what he said to the Leafs.
I like it, I hope he doesn't have to do this often at all but it's nice to see a coach take a time out and blast his players a bit to snap them out of the 'we are up time to cruise' place they were in.
Everyone loved the Paul Maurice clip where he went off on his guys, to me this is a page out of that same playbook.
I actually think Keefe likely had this in him but was never allowed to actually do it, his lack of NHL coaching experience simply didn't afford him that opportunity with MLSE, his GM etc. |

I don't know man, I remember Keefe as being pretty fired up behind the bench.

I worked too hard on my response in the last thread to let it go to waste:
I guess I shouldn't be surprised but it is disappointing, kind of like the time I got to play on the ACC ice for being one of the top fundraisers in a hockey for heart charity tourney. The tourney organizer told me MLSE didn't even cut them any type of a deal for the ice (we played at like 5pm or something on a non game day). - Cush29
This is an organization that is trying to sell Matt Hunwick's locker room nameplate for $50:
https://auctions.realspor...6-17/isynmv1/prod/2676355
This is an organization that is trying to sell used pucks from last year for $75:
https://auctions.realspor...used/isynmv1/prod/2745090
This is an organization that is trying to sell a Reaves jersey from last year for $1,500:
https://auctions.realspor...worn/isynmv1/prod/2745675
And my favourite: this is an organization that is trying to sell the hat that Joel Edmundson wore throughout last year's playoffs for $50:
https://auctions.realspor...cker/isynmv1/prod/2844270
Joel Edmundson had 1 assist and was a -1 in 7 games (TOI/GP 18:40).
And as much as I want to hate MLSE, I would do the exact same thing. If people are stoopid enough to spend money on stuff you would otherwise be throwing in the garbage, why would you stand in their way? |

Considering the 50$ pricetag on these other plugs, sounds like a steal!

I'm not saying Keefe didn't get heated - he for sure did, I just don't remember him calling a time out when his team was up like this and being able to snap them out of it.

Good point(s) they put profit above most/all for sure.
The pricing on their team issued but not worn, game worn / used or just team used stuff has become insane for sure. All their branded stuff has but your bang on, as long as people will pay it that's the value and that's what they will sell it at.

Are you retired?
If not I bet you singlehandedly keep an entire HR department employed! Even more so if you are (what the new stupid term is) a "people leader".
I can imagine it now....
Phone rings
"Ya this is manager thick neck what the F*#k do you want!"
"ya boss it's Joey, I'm sick as a dog and can't come to work"
"stop acting like a little painty waist and learn how to take drugs and work through the pain. Oh and another thing, stop wearing that stupid big hat to work, you look stupid".

I tend to recall Keefe with a lot more, "Now boys, you have to focus on the details," timeouts more than the giving them poop for lacklustre efforts - and that really was. I will totally acknowledge that Tavares was recovering from the flu and didn't look good, but the whole line with Robertson and Holmberg was piss poor last night. They were badly outed - as in outworked, outplayed, outshot, outchanced and outscored.
The bottom-6 yesterday were outshot 11-3 and outscored 2-0 in 16 minutes of 5v5; the top-6, in 20 minutes of 5v5, were outshot 14-13, but outscored their opposition 4-0. That said, a lot of the Kings shots and chances were more garbage than stats would lead you to believe - many of their "HD" chances in the first were trying to bang a puck through Stolarz from the side of the net from 0 inches out and Stolarz down and covering. But the Kings definitely feasted on the bottom-6 in particular in the second half of the game.

My memories of Keefe being fired up behind the bench was generally when they had really blown it - lost a substantial lead etc. so more after the really bad thing happened than what the example of Berube last night.
Full acknowledgement that it could entirely be recency bias on my part but I feel like if Keefe is behind the bench last night he doesn't call that time out and blast the team there - he waits until it's 5-4 or worse?
Fun stat that a buddy sent me (so no clue if it's accurate but he's pretty good with this stuff) when I shared the tweet with him - he said this is the best +/- (yes the stat we love to hate and hate to love) start to a season the Leafs have had since the 1999 Pat Quinn Leafs.
