SILFVERBERG IMPRESSES SPEZZA
22-year old Swedish rookie Jakob Silfverberg is ready for prime time, according to The Ottawa Sun. Silfverberg is going to get his baptism by fire against Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets. With the Sens looking for a strong forward to play on the right side of Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek, Silfverberg has spent the whole camp there to try to build chemistry.
"Silfverberg's abilities to hang onto the puck, skate and see the ice are very good," said coach
Paul MacLean. "He's a good player to play with Michalek and Jason.
"
He's good without the puck and on the back check. The lockout helped Silfverberg more than anybody because he played over here in North America, in a smaller rink in Binghamton and that adjustment for European players can be tough."
Silfverberg has impressed Spezza.
"He's felt pretty comfortable all week," said Spezza. "He's a great hockey player. The biggest thing is just trying to make him feel comfortable right away and play with poise.
"He's going to be a great player, it's just a matter of how quickly he feels comfortable. It should be a good line and, hopefully, we can get off to a good start. He's quick and he's hard on pucks. He's got a good hockey IQ. The more we skate together, the more you can see he goes to the right spots."
