Benoit Pouliot? That was Minnesota's bust, not ours... Habs traded Latendresse for him - obie
I never said I was limiting my list to our own draft picks.
I've said we've had players like that before.

Would you guys do Eriksson + Juolevi vs Alzner + Juulsen? |

Btw, A playoff run means you get past at least one round... - BashCH
Unfortunately due to how the seeding is now structured, that's not really a good measure anymore. In a system where team #1 always plays team #8, #7 vs #2, etc... then depth-of-round is a pretty good measure for playoff success. The stupid seeding rules of today's NHL means that excellent teams can easily get eliminated in the first round.
This would be true even if Toronto got past Boston this year--that would mean that Boston, which is an excellent team, would have been eliminated before round 2.
A better measure of a good playoff run is to see how the team actually played. Toronto only played 3 more games than Tampa this year, but Toronto had a vastly better playoff run than Tampa did. |

I'm not a big fan of Juolevi. I think Juulsen, despite his freak injury, is most likely to become a regular NHL player. |

So both teams lost in the first round, but the Leafs played 3 more game so they were VASTLY better?
Well if that helps you sleep at night.... go for it. |

Yeah, no.
A run means you actually advance at some point.

Yes, precisely. Toronto took an SCF finalist to 7 games, and Tampa didn't even win one game. The type of performance that Toronto gave, under the old seeding system, was probably equivalent to something like an ECF berth.
It's not a defensive statement--just an observation that with this seeding format, it's now much more common for a top 3-4 team in the NHL to not see round #2. The NHL playoffs have very little impact on my ability to sleep. |

You should definitely write that one down. That way, when Montreal puts forth an excellent effort against an SCF finalist years from now, you can pull it out, dust it off, and remind everyone that it's possible to have a great team even if they don't go past round 1. |

Montreal lost in OT game 7 against Stanley cup winning Boston in 2011 round 1. Equivalent of almost winning the Stanley cup. |
