+ 3 draft picks
Only this fan base would b!tch about acquiring Shaw for 2 second round picks and then b!tch again about trading him back for pretty much the same return 3 years later!! - obie
And in the process Hawks draft stud DeBrincat with one of the picks. SWEET!!!!

No guarantee Habs would have drafted him... and what was the return when the Hawks got Fleischmann and Weise from the Habs again? |

IMO, if the Habs really wanted to sign Gardiner they wouldn't have signed Chiarot. - BashCH

I remember we all wanted DeBrincat and Sam Girard in here. We were pissed they traded those picks. |

disagree. they traded Eller at the same time and recouped those 2 picks. most of us were happy to replace Eller with Shaw. |

I was pleased with the Eller trade, thought they overpaid for Shaw since Chicago were in cap hell. |

I don't mind...as long as if they don't trade that 2nd round pick for a 3rd and a 4th round pick. I never understood that one.

No to Gardiner - WaterBoy
... or at least buyer beware.
Feel bad for the guy (to a point). His game already had warts but he was a more attractive commodity before the back issues. I am sure it will cost him millions on his next contract. |

The player they wanted was ranked way lower. It's really not that hard to get. It's a good trade if you don't like the players that are ranked highers. Nothing to do with quality over quantity. |

Gardiner would make the Habs a better team.
But term and money needs to make sense. |

I think he may be wise to go one year with a contender and hit ufa again next year...but that's a massive risk on his part |

It all depends if he believes he's good or knows he's overrated. |

At least he's not trading 1st round picks just to shed bad contracts - obie
Cleaning up Lamoriello's mistake, in a season where the cap didn't rise as much as most expected was pretty tough.
I think Dubas has done a remarkable job so far considering the horrible cap situation he was dealt and the important RFA's he had to sign.
I guess what happens with Marner will tell the story, but it is not automatically the GMs fault if the player's side are being asshats... we'll see.
