They couldn't handle the Preds? They beat the Preds and eliminated them! |

In the next round against the Avalanche I would really like to see the Coyotes play better, but if they couldn't handle the Preds, I don't know how they'll handle the Avs. - James_Tanner
They beat them 3 games to 1. That's handling them. |

James Tanner: Coyotes vs Predators Series Stats - James_Tanner
Here's a gem from Jimmy...

I appreciate Anylitics as a very useful tool.
I very much dislike when critics of anylitics are laughed at for arguing with math but when the math doesnโt add up all I read is bad luck and goaltending. It just seems like a built in excuse when in reality my pug picked as many play in winners as anylitics did.
Not sure it would fly if Jack Johnson can say the only reason I suck is bad luck and goaltending.
Anyways, you take a beating in here some days. Good on ya for always showing up with your opinions. Whether I agree or not is alright, I appreciate other takes.

Translation. " I look really silly so I have to continue to argue this farce that the Leafs got stoned by a goaltender."
Keefe's decision to play Taveras, Marner and Matthews on the same line is the biggest coaching blunder of the series.

That super line dominated each time they were on the ice. Problem is the other lines did nothing. Moving Nylander to center? Did he even play center during the season? Keefe was guilty of trying to be smarter than he really is. I get it.
He was going with what worked to win game 4. But he made his team too one dimensional for game 5. It helps Torts when he can throw out Jones and Werenski to defend it.
Taking young Robertson out for Johnsson who's coming off injury and hasn't played in months? I didn't get that one either. |

That's really my point. I didn't watch game 4. They lacked depth through the lineup. Players like Kapanen, Johnsson and Kerfoot gave them nothing. Hockey is won through the middle. Center, defense, goaltending. You have all that money tied up. Have to go with the 1-2 punch of Matthews and Taveras at center. The Leafs were lifeless last night. That team just does not have a killer instinct. To not score a single goal in an elimination game is pathetic. |

I was surprised Kapanen and Hyman didn't have more of an impact. Kapanen makes guys look silly with his speed. Hyman is usually the hardest working guy on the ice which opens up time and space for the big boys. |

I see we're back to using Corsi again. Neat.
Isn't it strange that both the Leafs and the Preds won the Corsi battles, but lost the series. Hmm, I wonder if maybe there is more to hockey than Corsi? Oh wait, apparently its all about goalies. Deep stuff.
Ironic that Hall had such poor 5-on-5 stats! Remember when you were screaming at Tocchet and calling him an idiot for not playing Hall more at 5-on-5. What an idiot for playing Richardson and Grabner. Boy did Tocchet make you look like a fool. That said, it's not that hard.
P.S. When does Jfresh update his scorecards? The Leafs might get higher scores after all those awesome Corsi results. |

He lives in a fantasy world. The Leafs were awful last night. - MJL
i disagree. leafs had number of chances last night.
but not sure how anyone can say they got goalie'd for the series. They scored 0,3,3,4 and 0 goals.
problems to me:
- they quit in the 3rd of game 1; gave themselves no chance for a comeback.
- kerfoot being kerfoot blew game 3 for them.
- got beat by a hot goalie in the 5th game; only because they weren't good enough to close out the series earlier.
clearly this team isn't ready to take on tampa. |

the bigger columbus dmen manhandled hyman, rendering him useless. just another example of keefe out coaching torts. |

Blame Andersen for the Foudy goal and therefore the loss, but what about the Leafs who decided it was a good time to glide over to the bench for a change when the puck was going around the boards to an opposition player all alone along the right boards deep in their defensive zone? Is there an analytics tool that can capture that? |

Two weeks ago Tanner said Kerfoot was the most underrated player on the Leafs. He was their best defender, and better at defending than 75% of the NHL. He also scored at the same rate as Tavares (of course this references 5-on-5 which is all that matters to Tanner). There were also a bunch of stuff about Corsi, WAR, GAR and some other alphabet soup stuff. So a bit surprised to hear you rag on Kerfoot. I was led to believe he was pretty awesome. Tanner also said the Leafs won the Kadri trade. |

Leafs lose to another hard working, physical, defense first team and
Super smart , Progressive thinkers like yourself , Dubas , Keefe and all you can up with is bad luck and out of this world goaltending is the reason we lost. Sure everyone will be copying Superboy Duby's vision. Fact check old boring Lou's team still playing.
Fact check old Lou's team had a better regular season for the 2nd straight year { no small sample size}. Fact check your pick for the Norris Mr. Barrie came up a little short. That steal of a trade with the most underrated Leaf Kerfoot [ your pick] and the great Barrie really made the difference vs Columbus.
Again your stat sheets really tell the story. blah, blah, blah corsi, expected shot, etc .Maybe the Leafs win a playoff series in the NHL 20 video game . You can't use the excuse about playing well and losing to a great Boston team. You just lost to no name COLUMBUS who play hard and defensive. Maybe Duby's vision of speed and scoring is flawed. Please stop talking about how talented they are. They got shutout twice in 5 games. And then we have to hear the snowflakes cry about the goalie on the other team having the nerve to play well against the most talented team in the NHL. Guess all your preseason predictions show just how much you know about hockey. Smartest GM in hockey, what a joke.

that play showed a team that had a complete lack of awareness/engagement as to what was happening on the ice.
foudy should never have had the puck in the corner by himself like that; as much as it was a bad goal by andersen. |

In any game there are chances. I didn't see any heart or will to win from that team. The effort defensively collectively on the Columbus 2nd goal was sad. Reilly's effort to defend on the EN goal was equally inept. A lot of individual play instead of getting to the greasy hard areas of the ice and crashing the net.

that's fair.
they typically play well in small stretches during games. lots of talent, so they get by winning in the regular season more often than not just doing that.
can't all of sudden change those bad habits and become a team that works hard in the playoffs.
no realization that other teams have talent and work harder. |
