The Leafs, Penguins and Oilers all lost to teams who play boring garbage hockey and rely on a goalie to do the heavy lifting.

Wait, are you trying to imply that the Blue Jackets have a good goalie? I thought they were just "lucky" in the Leafs series to get good goaltending.

I thought the penalty on Stepan was a disgrace. It's hard to argue it as the turning point of the game when you collapse for 3 super fast goals against, but still it stunk.

Bad ice, is just bad ice and doesn't really favor anyone. Scotty Bowman loved the trap, or the left wing lock as he called it and nobody complained about Detroit doing it.

The thing is Toronto, Edmonton and Pittsburgh are out of the playoffs (or Play-ins) because of flaws in how they built their rosters that other team took advantage of. And really Toronto is out because of their goaltending as much as anything else... but whatever. For them it's every year and you can blame their opponent every time. Dictating what style of hockey you want teams to play is just complete garbage. Although luckily the NHL doesn't really have a problem with that type of garbage. Just look over at the trap-ezoid (get it?) behind the net which is a completely bullpoop rule.... Marty's retired. You can remove that monstrosity now. Just saying.

The bigger point is playoff hockey (and Play-In hockey) are different from the regular season game. It's just the way it is.

When coaches are deciding who to play and how much, they don't look at the name or past awards. They look at the combination that they feel is most effective.

His great vision of offense only is flawed. And the whole super talented stuff is also crap. You see guys like you and Duby make it like talent means high scoring snowflakes. Tavares,Marner, Nylander sooo talented, but no in your face determination and will. You can have both you know just look to Marchand, Pasta, Bergy. Untrue, the coach sucks. 14 shots is embarrassing with Hall, Dvorak, Kessel, Stepan, Garland, OEL, Goli, Chychrun. They should do bettee. Unbelievable Tochett still has a job

As a leafs fan, their core is strongly skilled but it obvious that we are lacking that will and determination needed in the playoffs. JT is included in that group. Hopefully this loss burns that's fire that some skilled players need to ignite themselves for hardnosed playoff hockey. Stats wise did the leafs outplay based on shooting yes, but if you watch the games, the Blue Jackets played a hard nosed 60 minute game. Not shoot from the outside catch up hockey. Blue Jackets were the better team. Some games overall play is better than plain shooting stats.
