At least he's unlikely to get offer sheet'd. And if he did I doubt he'd sign it. Sounds like he truly want's to be a Bruin. |

Probably the player ask. Sweeney is probably below 7. I'm sure they end up somewhere in the middle. |

If that truly is the number (and I have my doubts), then fine...offer him what you plan which is likely 8 years at $7.5M-$8M per or 2 years at $7.75M with at which point he can become an UFA and if his play warrants it you will offer him $11M per for 6 more years (under that deal, he gets a total of $82M vice $80M)...I know they can't do that sort of thing "legally" but hey, why not? |

The luster is starting to rub off of Swayman for me. Comments he's made recently are starting to rub me the wrong way. |

A lot of this sounds like media coaching from the agent. He is going to be asked about the contract situation a lot until it is resolved. Sweeney managed his leverage poorly, this is the result.
I have no doubt that Swayman loves the team, but I can totally understand his desire to make management sweat a little. Kid has earned his new contract and it will likely get done unless Sweeney absolutely botches it. He could have prioritized Sway's contract before arbitration last year, he didnt. He could have negotiated it in trust prior to the date Sway was eligible to sign, he didnt. Both years Sweeney waited, spent money on free agents first, then turned around and focused on Sway.
Sweeney has cultivated animosity with Swayman. And while they likely wont publicly admit to such, it absolutely sucks to be made to feel like you're not a top priority year after year. |

I don't know, he's the one who asked for arbitration last year and didn't like "the business side of it" where the Bruins laid their cards on the table as to why they offered what they did. Now he's talking about understanding and liking the business part of this. All the while he's publicly playing the perfect teammate Bruin...talking about loving the city, doing all of the charity and PR stuff, etc. Man do I miss Chara and Bergy, guys that understood that living off several million a year is enough and if there's more money to go around the team is likely better. Pasta and McAvoy are no better.
Agree completely that Sweeney once again screwed the pooch on this whole situation (surprise, surprise) but no way does Sway deserve $10M per.

This is has been shot down. It was 98.5 creating scuttlebutt.
Mike Grinell from Spitting Chiclets said his team source is telling him that's total bullpoop.

Out of curiosity what do you see his value as? I've said this several times over the summer already. His comparable is Illya Sorokin. That's in the neighborhood of 8 over 8.
Also this "Man do I miss Chara and Bergy, guys that understood that living off several million a year is enough and if there's more money to go around the team is likely better. Pasta and McAvoy are no better." Is a complete load of poop dude.
What has the kid said that make anyone assume he is going to try and (frank) the team over? What the (frank) is wrong is getting what you're worth?

There is nothing wrong with it. It should be expected and if they sign for less to do the team a favor we should all count ourselves lucky.
Sweeney created this situation. Thats where everyone's anger should be directed at |

Got no problem with 8 for 8 (would prefer a little less of course ). I stand by my comment that Pasta and McAvoy are both overpaid. |

McAvoy yes. His projection was he would be a true #1 D. That unfortunately isn't going to happen. He's just not that guy.
In what world is Pasta overpaid? Another one of these guys who scream "we need a goal scorah" and then when you finally get one you poop on him. Ridiculous. |

Not that I love Sweeney but how is this his fault? It's not like contract disputes are a new thing or unique to the Bruins. Actually we've been pretty fortunate with these as fans. |

I lay blame on him for not having pre-negotiations. Not just this year, but also not even really trying prior to arbitration last year. In this instance, Sweeney has managed the Swayman situation poorly. My two cents.
Done well in other areas, but I have never felt he has made Swayman a priority until its the last thing on the docket to do. |

Didn't say Pasta was way over paid...just over paid. When you start filling "parts" of the roster with guys making the most in the league at their position you end up like the Leafs...great individual players but the team as a whole suffers. Look at the Hawks...when Toews and Kane signed for basically top contracts for their positions they won the Cup that year but never again made it past the 1st round if they even made the playoffs.
If there was no cap, over pay, no problem. But if you want to win the Cup in a cap league there has to be some "concessions" by the star players. That was the point I was making about Chara and Bergy. |

We don't agree. This fanbase doesn't realize what it has with him. Guys of his caliber get paid what they're worth. Bergeron taking haircuts was his choice and shouldn't be an expectation for every top player. It's management's job to supplement the core with quality players via the draft, trade and free agency. So to your point about the Leafs that's where they fail. To have 4 forwards making that kind of money is irresponsible. At least one of them (Marner) should get dealt to help out the bottom 6 and the D. |

They landed Chara cause they offered him a huge contract at the time, and promised to make him captain.

Trading Ullmark without having an understanding of what it would take to sign Swayman is completely his fault. Both sides say they are close but are they? Are they close but each side already feels they moved to much off their number?
