Anyone else have absolutely ZERO memory of Steve Sullivan besides me?

The team was so strong this season (and the next) and the playoff results were so disappointing. An absolute implosion in terms of goaltending and discipline on the ice in the first round against your arch rival. Every game Fleury would let in an early goal, a lot of times on the very first shot, and goals right after the Pens scored. Then they would lose their minds and take terrible penalties engaging in scrums and other nonsense.

It's really mind boggling to me how favorable Paul Martin's players cards look.

I vividly remember him being solid but not spectacular.

IMO this team and the season after's edition of the Pens were superior on paper than the teams that won the cup in 2016 and 2017.

I really liked Paul Mart. As you say, not spectacular, but almost always made the right play. I think he had more offense to give, but erred on the side of defense. Underrated hands.

The thing with Paul Martin is that he was extremely sound at the little things. If the rest of the defense weren’t such a dumpster fire through most of his tenure, I think he’d be looked at like prime Dumo or current Petts but much more offensively competent. But since he usually played with such a poopty partner he caught a lot of blame

PM’s first season with us wasn’t the best either and I think that left a sour taste in some fans mouths that they didn’t want to look past. After a few years he was a really good dman.

Paul Martin was a way better quality defenseman than Erik Karlson, if your objective is to win games.

Aron Asham. Penguins legend. The guy Malkin just referred to as “Indian”.
