If this is at USNTDP related, you could also go back to when JVR was drafted by the Flyers and refused to listen to what GM Paul Holmgren was requesting in terms of coming to camp. He opted to stay in college for another year if memory serves. I don't think their relationship was ever the same after that.

It’s unfortunate the system is stacked in the favor of ncaa kids. The chl agreement is so bad and this is just another part of that. Junior players should also be eligible to be ufas by the time they are 22-23 years old. Teams had 4 years to negotiate and sell themselves to a player. That’s plenty.

It's weird that draft eligibility isn't based on any deliberate consent by the player. The NHLPA should definitely be building that standard into their contract, but consistent with most unions they largely exist to aid the veterans at the expense of the newcomers.

These "kids" are 18 and adult. They can vote and die in our military. The risk analysis of some of these adults might not appeal to all, but these adults are exercising what little leverage they have to control their landing spot. Some clubs benefit (i.e., NYR with Vesey and Fox) and some don't. Those are the breaks.

True..But some times these "kids" overvalue their importance as pre NHL rookies and forget that they have to earn it. Cutter Gauthier was butt hurt because Philly didn't fly him out and roll out the red carpet. I think that type of poop is unacceptable..That's all..

He can live in total comfort, anonymity, and have a great life while playing with a great young team with outstanding ownership. He fell into a great situation.

Don't know if still true, but hardly any Flyers players lived in the city, or even PA. Most lived in S. Jersey. The only reason they crossed the bridge was to play games or fly out on road trips.

Thats the point of the NHL system. If Your prospects can now dictate where they play, it becomes incredibly difficult for bad teams or teams in less popular cities to get better. These prospects are going to all want to play on top teams in prefered locations. How is a team like Columbus going to get better if Prospects have the choice to play where ever they want? Many players dont want to be in Columbus

I agree. Should have come to the burgh. But cali is beautiful and he’ll have money to actually exist comfortably there.
