"With the Leafs roster crunch, Grebyonkin will undoubtedly start the season in the AHL, but he could get a look at some point during the season."

You are bang on with this Mike. I think this kid is a keeper.

On a different topic, anyone heard what is next for former Leaf Nik Kulemin?

Got spatso'd in the last blog:

Agreed, nothing wrong with Keefe, but they need a new voice in the locker room to unlock some of their potential. Or, this could backfire spectacularly.
- Whipper

Recency amnesia???

His line combos, time out calls or non calls, his coddling of the star players, his soft systems, goalie pulls or non pulls....(frank), I remember him putting the worse line up matches on the ice a critical times in the game that directly resulted in losses.

I still contest that the Leafs record would be the same if not better if there was a (frank)ing banana behind the bench. Anyone could've coached this team to that many consecutive 1st round losses.

Keefe sucks.

The sign of a good coach is getting a lot out of less talented players, not get less out of more talented players.

(frank) him all the way to Jersey.

I've actually been the guy screaming for 3+ years for the Leafs to can Keefe, but to be honest, after he put out his video after the firing, my stance has somewhat softened. He took accountability and owned that $hit.

In his defense, though, the teams he had to work with always had GLARING holes in them. The team the Leafs will ice this year is a lot more complete than we've seen in quite some time.

Legit question, when was the last time the Leafs were this well rounded? Discuss.

I think he gives us the ability to move on from Yawnchoke next year at the very latest.

Heres a highlight of a big hit from the captain. Check out some of the names on the ice.

Bet you are going to be pissed when he wins the Jack Adams this year.

His exit speech was cool, agree. (frank) him tho.

As for you question, I haven't seen a Leafs team this balanced in....poop honestly don't think I've seen it ever. (just got to get rid of Lily and get a 3C/2C only hole I see as of now)

Loved those Dion hits! Once he stopped hitting and missing the net with the point shot became his go to, he was done for me.

Hoping Benoit, McCabe and Hakanpaa deliver some of those hits this year

Early 90's?

92 /93?

Maybe also in the Belfour, Tucker, Roberts, Sundin, days.

Also I thought Keefe's video after being poop canned was classy AF.

I didn't rage hate him, hell I didn't even hate him but I do think it was time for him to go - perhaps a year later than it should have been. I would love to know the story behind him having to backpeddle in the media after actually going hard at the star players who were underperforming - I think that was a "you will...." conversation and he was the one doing all the listening.

I can't really tell who's a good coach or not, but it sounds about right to me what Tre said, that Keefe is a good coach but it was time to change it up, like happens with the best of them. Certainly he got a new job in no time flat and he had a long tenure with the Leafs. I expect he'll be around the league for a long time.

Ive said this many times. I liked keefe and he will do well in jersey, but it was time for a new voice and structure.
5 years, no deep runs, time to move on.

I agree for sure. Like him or not - time for a move. Even he said it in his rather classy exit…and he I am not a fan of him as a coach or person.

Who knows? Why not ask Ek? He loves Koolemon.

It was, Ek, on this very site who once wrote maybe his most idiotic headline of alltime (and that's saying something). He wrote "Kulemin is Datsyuk"

Ok, Ek. πŸ˜‰

I think exactly the same.

I don't always buy into the "he lost the room" argument, but in this case, yeah, he lost the room.

I guess we'll finally find out.

The Devils will likley be a good team, and Keefe will be talked about as coach of the year. after never ever getting a sniff of a mention while coaching the Leafs.

put that in my wedgie prediction thread

This is a very likely outcome and it will be all about how he changed as a coach since Toronto, is molding the young Devils blah blah blah.

The Toronto hate is real and it used to anger me but it kinda' just makes me laugh at this point, I just hope one day while I'm still above the grass they win the cup to see how many people are insanely angry and upset by it.

Oh and to read the conspiracy theories about how the NHL decided to give the Leafs the cup - because you just know that will happen! lol

Possibly.
Jersey now has a good goalie and they have a good young team and they underperformed last year...so it sets up nicely for the above to occur.
Maybe they'll better be able to execute his vision? Dunno.

It will all depend on how well the leafs play and how far they get in the playoffs. If the leafs make the 2nd/3rd round then any noise about Keefe and his success there wont matter (unless they win a cup). But if the leafs bow out in the first round again, then ya I could see the media saying it wasnt the coach it was the players. Which is understandable.

That's probably the right approach - feed the rage! lol

Unrelated but the Sens/Habs game was a bit of a gongshow the other night.

Wifi in the middle of it again of course when he tried to decapitate Olympic diver Timmy Apple Strudle but missed his head and got hands and stick. Tkachuck jumping Wifi and owning him was pretty funny though and Wifi seemed angry that he got done to him what he was so quick to do to Pare. lol

Then Dach gets rocked on a clean hit and decides he needs to fight the empty net slap shot loser from Ottawa who hit him. lol

I would guess someone on the coaching staff is gong to tell Wifi to cool it because they can't afford to have a D man kicked out every game!

The hypocrisy of reading Habs fans losing their poop on twitter is pretty funny about Pare on Laine so insistent it was for sure an intentional knee by Pare but still clinging 100% to the "It was an accident" about Perry on JT in the playoffs. Neverminded ignoring the hair pulling by Slak-off-ski in a fight he got one punched in and lost and the dirty play by Pizza boy trying to take out JT's knee in the same game Laine got hurt in. "Rouge coloured glasses" I guess.

Oct 9th should be an interesting game, fair bet Berube puts Reeves into the line up for that one.

Tampa / Flordia game had some silliness too and now Geeke has a hearing for leaving the bench on a line change to engage in an altercation (whatever that means). I mean it's not Wendel Clarkson leaving the bench NOT on a line change to jump a guy and get 10 games stupid but it's still stupid.

This pre-season has been super feisty and that's just stupid to me, especially when you have star players getting hurt but it is what it is I guess.
