I hear a possibility of trading Carter for a #1 goalie. Not a bad idea. If they do indeed do that, they need to find a cheap scorer to replace him. Maybe a right wing to play with Richards. Briere needs to actually stay a center next year so he can get his points in regularly. Giroux is a 3rd line center obviously. I would prefer if they resign Leino. They also need to extend Giroux's contract. He needs someone to play with. JVR and Asham can't be his line mates. |

Leino has another year on his contract
Asham will be gone via free agency
JvR eventually will be on a line with Giroux, this summer will bulk JvR up and this year of playing more hockey in a year than he has ever before can only prepare him for a complete productive next season
I dont even know if they can extend the Giroux contract yet since he is a RFA after next season, doubtful they extend until mid season 2010-11

Top 2 lines.
JVR-Richards-Gagne
Hartnell-Briere-Leino
I love these two lines as scoring lines. I wanna see Powe and Carcillo back most definitely. I'll gladly take Asham back since we dont really have anyone on the farm to replace him, with the exception being maybe Testwuide.
???-Powe/Giroux-(Asham?)
Carcillo-Betts-Lappy
I'm totally comfortable with Powe or Giroux as the third line center. I would absolutely love if we signed a 3rd line LW with a scoring touch that can move up to the top 2 lines.. I'd also be content with letting Asham go, moving Powe to the right side, and signing Manny Malholtra, aka one of the best faceoff men in the league. Something our team is awful at (have Giroux play the wall).
As for Jeff Carter, if he's still on this team on October 2nd, I'm not watching. He needs to go. Period. The market for Carter is essentially any team that can fit him under the cap, which is just about everyone.
As for assets coming back, if it means throwing in Boucher, I want a young(er) goalie, a draft pick, and a depth defencemen. If the goalie is only ready for a back-up/AHL role (but has a lot of potential), sign a veteran starter like Dan Ellis or (cross my fingers) Chris Mason. If the goalie is ready to be the starter, sign Leighton and have him back him up. |

I actually was thinking the same thing with the richards line.
gagne - richards - jvr
richards always seems to get struggling players going, and hopefully he would be able to get jvr back to his early 09-10 form when he was rookie of the month in october. and if jvr can bulk up, that line can offer the same type of play as the hartnell - briere - leino line. obviously, that line shouldn't be touched.
carter - giroux - ?
this line needs a hartnell type player to be a presence in front of the net. either via free agency or maybe a patrick maroon. i'm not sure if he's nhl ready yet. if carter is traded, which i wouldn't be against as long as we get enough back, then we would need to sign a nice skill player through free agency. i don't want to see giroux playing with powe and asham. not that i don't like the two, i just want to see giroux with a chance at like 60-70 points which i think he is capable of, with some skill players around him.
asham/powe/carcillo - betts - laperriere
my preference would be asham. i like his skills, especially for the fourth line. plus, we need someone besides laperriere who is gonna drop their gloves on a regular basis. i like powe's energy, but doesn't ever drop them. I wouldn't be against carcillo coming back in this spot either, which is probably more likely.
seeing the various options at goalie, i think the best option would be signing leighton to a one year deal. i just think that it would make the most sense with how much he will be paid compared to the other guys. this guy kept the flyers in it through the middle of the season, and came back from a high ankle sprain on fire. he cooled off a bit when it mattered the most, but he was faced with a lot of pressure throughout the series, and kept them in a few games before ultimately giving up that goal to kane to end our season. i just feel like he earned a shot. and it will give us probably 3 or 4 million more to sign another solid d-man or a 3rd like skill player to pair with giroux.
we'll see what happens. and no matter what happens, i beleive in homer, and i'll be right there all flyered up! GO FLYERS!!!!!!!!! |

Wow. well aren't you the know-it-all? Yes I just found out that Leino indeed has another year on his contract. There might be a chance Asham comes back. But that's only unless they sign or trade for someone else to play with Giroux. And I hope to god your right about JVR. He had some lazy play this past season. They can extend Giroux, they just have to remove the RFA part of the contract. And my cheap scorer can be anybody that can score up to 14-20 goals that will play for 2-3 million. Briere and Gagne are going to have to be the scorers this year however, and hopefully JVR can produce some goals as well. |

How do you guys feel about Aaron Johnson? Steady 2-way d-man to round out the bottom pairing? |

Not a bad idea. Don't want to wind up with 7th dmen (OKT), but also don't want to spend a fortune for a 5th dman. There are a few solid dmen on the market that may be bargains. |

I feel Johnsons probably one of the best "bang for your buck" deals available for the blue line
