The Rangers put Avery on waivers today and fans on twitter, the FB page, NHL.com, and the Ranger's website reactions are pretty crazy. For the record I don't agree with these people. |

"Tortorella is a baby. He can't handle personalities. He should go back coaching no-nut, no heart players like Vinny Le and midget St Louis.
Maybe Avery doesn't score goals. So what. His intangibles outweigh the hopeful 50 goals Gabby will score this year... Doesn't anyone remember Claude Lemieux on the Devils? Instigating, agitating and annoying should be stats." |

#NYRangers waive Avery, and even worse, this means Christensen makes the team. Christensen = no real shot at anything more than an 8th seed. |

jeff.notkin: "John Tortorellaand the Rangers dont care what the fans want, and clearly dont want whats best for the team. If youre telling me EC played his way onto the team, youre lying. If you say the $1 million in cap space is the reason, youre an idiot. Tortorella and Sather are against Seans gay rights and both have alzheimers. I never thought I'd say this, but until both of them are fired and beaten up, i'm done with them. , Sather, and Torts dont care about the team or the fans. Christensen?..really?..get a clue..give me 5 minutes alone in a room with Torts, please!!!!!!!!!!!!" |

Jean Reinoso: I have difficulty believing this move isn't a result of Torts placating Richards a bit. I suspect there is a negative vibe between Richards and Avery, as Avery was a pariah in the Dallas locker room. Based on Torts and Richards relationship (evidenced, in part, by Richards being named a captain), I imagine that Avery's fate is in part due to some out of sight tension. We know he isn't the best guy to have in the locker room, but how do you waive a player who is a fan favorite, effective in his role (perhaps moreso than anyone else in the league), produces points and is actually skilled (especially possessing the puck behind the net and the corners)...he can play on any line (and has) and manufactures shots consistently. On top of it all, his teammates singled him out as being one the best physically prepared players to arrive at camp... To me, it all points to a sour personal vendetta on the part of Torts and his desire to make Richards more of a focal point of the squad and make him more at ease. It's a shame...I hate to see him go (and would especially hate to have to play against him).

richardsonrangers: this really pisses me off! as a ranger fan, who actually watches the games. i can tell you right now, they will regret this in a few months. they were inured out of their butts last year, and now you cut a guy who can give you some good minutes pissing the other teams players off?? i blame torts for this. he has never liked avery. when avery is at his best and has some leeway from the coach, he is a very good player. sad to see him go. i hope he stays, so when we get injured, hes there to come up again. AVERY AVERY AVERY!

I don't understand why people are so mad, this is for the 13th forward spot, so even if he did make the team he wouldn't play that much anyway. |

i'm amazed at these responses (and lmao at them). a couple years ago i'd get a little bit of a backlash because he was at least effective at being a mother(frank)er. but now he's a nobody. and when he did do something it was just a distraction. |

Like a lot of people, I liked Avery when he was 1st here, but his 2nd time around he's just been useless, he never really did anything well except for getting Broudour off his game. |

@AdamRotter Bad choice. EC bring nothing as a 3-4th line player. Torts not an Avery fan. Keeping EC for shootouts is counter productive |

@AdamRotter worst decision ever. Christensen is a putz. Prust, Rupp, and Avery would have made other teams keep their head up |

@AdamRotter 100% ego, 0% hockey. When is the last time EC provided a boost? We’ll regret this in April when we need Avery for the playoffs. |

@AdamRotter Agreed, my point is that they need a guy like Avery for the playoffs. They can find EC in the Hartford, there is no other Avery. |
