Um....No.
Any trade that tries to swap quality for quantity will always be a fail!

On a serious note, what would you want on top of the obvious of Schenn + Kadri for Getzlaf or Ryan? I just want to see how different an Anaheim evaluationis from a Toronto one. |

Well, personally, I think it would be a big mistake to trade either Getzlaf or Ryan. Yes, the team had a rough go this season, but trading away guys who are REALLY hard to replace isn't the way to go! The basis for the "epic fail" this year seems to me to be more on the supporting staff end, followed by a loss of confidence at the top.
Look at our 3rd and 4th lines at the start of the season, and you see a whole lot of AHL quality, and retreads who took some time to fit in. That's been improved by some pickups, and guys coming off of injury, (Blake and Visnovsky). Maybe the recent upsurge, if it continues, will convince the Anaheim brass to let it ride, and build a better team from the bottom up next year....
As for Kadri and Schenn being the starting poing: I don't think we should take that risk. Will Kadri become a Ryan? Will Schenn blossom in Anaheim? Would a draft pick or two actually become NHL players? The answer, to me, is "Who knows?!" Throwing away NHL quality, (even if slumping), for big question marks is a recipe for failure.
Personally, I'm not sure Toronto is the best trading partner for the Ducks, anyway. (Particularly since Burkie seems to have Barstool Bob wrapped around his little finger).
I'd want PROVEN NHL QUALITY assets in return for either Getzlaf or Ryan. That isn't Schenn and Kadri. They still qualify only as "Maybe's". |

Sometimes the status quo just can't get it done. Depth is huge in the league today. |

fair enough. So I assume you'd be looking for an even swap (i.e. similar to the Heatley for Havlat type deal)
If I were the GM though, I feel like if I were to be trading ne of those guys, and if I wanted proven talent, I'd make the trade for depth. Ship off a ton of unproven talent along with Ryan, and ask for a 2nd liner, 3rd liner, and top 4 d in return.
Then with the top 5 pick you get this year, draft Ryan's replacement, and you're bck in contention again next year. |
