Doesn't seem fair to other teams who have players who are for all intent retired to have to use LTIR to get under the cap. Ryan Ellis comes to mind. Carey Price as well.
Once again the NHL opens up a giant can of worms it bred itself. |

unfortunate...
Robyn battled some demons, heck he might still be battling them. When he was healthy and played he was a warrior that's for sure.
Unfortunate end to his career. |

I think this is it though - Lehner has had mental health issues in the past. He may have violated his contract by not rehabbing / reporting, but could argue his non report is because of mental health issues - the league doesn’t want to litigate / touch that. Vegas is happy to pay and not have it count against the cap and move on. And Vegas could likely cancel the contract, so perhaps it isn’t a gift to Vegas at all. I bet no bearing on Johansen situation. |

So I just need Johansen and Ellis to say they are battling demons and the Flyers get 10 mill in cap relief?

That’s the thing though. I’m all for him getting his money
But there should’ve been a penalty against Vegas some how.
Take a draft pick away, something to punish them. Instead they’re awarded cap space. |

But if they could have terminated his contract, they have been awarded nothing. They are actually out $5M instead of terminating the contract AND getting the cap space. Instead of air dirty laundry and engage in a losing PR battle for the NHL, something that worked for everyone was agreed to. Many People (not necessarily you) are all on top of this because they think Vegas gets favoured. Bettman did nothing for Vegas - a bunch of GMs gave Vegas players on a silver platter. And the deeper expansion draft was tied to the franchise price - which all the owners wanted. Bettman gave nothing - the owners willingly depleted their teams in order to up franchise values and line pockets. This Vegas conspiracy thing is ridiculous. Guess what - it was great for business! |

I hear you on this but I think you're missing the boat. Okay, if the league doesn't want to touch/litigate that then that's easy. The contract termination is denied. Player still on the payroll and use LTIR for the player. The league did litigate that and it would be easy to say the player has mental health issues, won't rehab or report, so they're going to make an exception for this player and his mental health issues. That's not what was done though. Vegas wanted the cap space and obviously didn't care about the salary.

You have no idea who you are talking to or what my perspective on mental health is. You have absolutely no clue, but you are clearly missing the point. I did not say he was not having mental health issues. However, I did say he falsely accused an NHL franchise of pushing drugs on their players which he did. I am sure if that happened to the leafs who are gods gift to the nhl, your opinion would be the same... We can all agree he is having mental health issues. Good. That's done.
The NHL is still a business and every cap decision impacts the remainder of the league. You want to tap dance around it, but in the real world those issues need to be addressed as well. What's the difference between, Substance abuse, Mental Health, Post Concussion which without a doubt can lead to life long mental health issues? If Vegas is granted a pass for this than there are many other scenarios which might warrant a pass as well. Also he had issues long before he signed that contract. This is not a new thing and the team signed the deal anyway. Anyone with half a hockey opps brain knew that was a terrible deal as many of those 5mill ish goalie deals are. There are countless examples. |

Thanks for sharing your elite insider knowledge elliot....keep that blackberry close for more scoops - Octavarium found this on my bb: “Is it common for work places to give out benzodiazepines to employees when they travel and ambien ? Should that not be done by doctors or psychiatrist? Asking for a friend … this doesn’t happen in Vegas to be clear. But I know many other teams. I also been in on teams that do?”
And one more…
“#PhiladelphiaFlyers ? Dinosaur coach treating people robots not human. Fire these dinosaurs. Fire #vigneault first story. I got proof.. try to shake your way out of this one ….”

For someone being so defensive and pointing out points that are being missed. You seem to be missing one too.
he did make some pretty strong accusations against teams, then attempted to walk them back..then got accused of fraud and is bankrupt - I think there's a little truth to what he said. Maybe Vigneualt got caught in the crossfire, maybe Robyn was spooked into not continuing with his accusations....who knows.
how many players deaths over the years can be attributed to pain killers and subsequent substance abuse |
