I remember back in the worst days of the Lions, they usually had really good pre-seasons (sometimes undefeated) and would get the fans hopes up. I remember back in the worst days of the Tigers, they would have really good spring trainings and get their fans hopes up. I'm really glad the Wings pre-season is over because the value of it, as far as a predicter to how the season will go, is significantly (infinitely, really), less than zero. We'll see how they do now that the games actually count, but there is no such thing as momentum from season to season, and even less momentum from pre-season to regular season. |

And by the way, the Tigers are up one to nothing in game three of the ALDS...go Tigers! |

I’ve seen similar in the pre season. Really hoping to see a fast start. Honestly excited to see the season kicking in! |

Absolutely! That team having success is such a boost for people. It seems like sports, when there’s some success, really helps people in the area. Love seeing people walking around wearing the old English “D”. |

It's awesome, it's been 10 years since they made the playoffs and 40 years since they won the World Series. |

I had a Lance Parrish card. He was my favorite from the 80s team. It’s tough to see Gibby struggling but he’s trying to make good things happen. I was only 7, wasn’t that the “Bless you boys” team? Then we had the Pistons “Bad Boys” and my parents worked for Bill Davidson. They got to meet Isiah Thomas at their office. Bill Laimbeer was supposed to show up but he’d been ejected from life. |

'84 Tigers were the Bless You Boys which was borne out of Al Ackerman's statement in previous years, "Bless you boys, this was almost the year..."
Lance Parrish was a beast as a catcher. In previous years, he'd been Tina Turner's body guard. Was a gentle giant, got to meet him in '83, great guy. That team was a bunch a middling players that just clicked, there were some beasts, for sure, but there was always so much heart-break. Steve Kemp patrolling right field, Trammell & Whitaker (maybe a Top3 double-play combo), Jason Thompson at 1st, Phil Mankowski at the hot corner.....Dave Rozema, Gibby....those guys were animals. Recall Rozema had a "special" bottle in his uniform pants back pocket, was horsing around w/Gibby and fell on the bottle which broke and sliced his butt and had to have stitches, sat out for like 10 games or some such. TONS of great memories of the Tigers of years gone by, listening to Kell and Kaline calling the games on TV, Harwell was simply epic on WJR.... Wishing this year's team the best!!!!
GAME DAY!!! GAME DAY!!! GAME DAY!!! Cannot wait to see how this season shakes out, like the rest of you. Not sure this will be a SCPO-bound team, but everyone I listen to or read thinks this team is better than last. I worry about replacing goals and hoping the team D tightens up......it's going to be a rough run to be better as we transition. It just feels like the next 2 years are those final transition years between "CLOSE" and "HERE WE GO".......... |
